Weber

In the Basic Concepts of Sociology by Max Weber he attempts to define sociology and list and define the certain aspects of it. He talks about behavior and how mostly every action has some sociological meaning. He also talks about how there are actions that are meaningful and not meaningful and that if your actions are not affecting anyone but yourself then they are not social. Weber's definition of sociology is so deep and has so many different aspects that make up the definition of one word. Weber thought that studying the social sciences could help the people find their truth ethical values and teach them how to act properly according to them, but he also thought that this would never work because the people could never truly decide which morals to uphold.
He also gave us three types of legitmate political rule. The first that he mentioned was rational legal authority. This had to do with the rulers acting on the law and being able to change and enforce it. The second that he mentioned was traditional authority in which the ruler changes nothing. The ruler and the people he rules believe strongly in traditions and they will uphold the laws from ancient times. The third is charismatic authority. This type of rule is the type that all the people under the ruler put all their faith in the ruler and will abide with any decision he or she makes. Now these types of rulers are very specific and i think that since they are so specific they dont cover all of the possible legitmate political rulers. Sure these three types cover a lot and when you look back sure you might be able to classify every ruler into one of these categories if you had to, but a lot of rulers would fall into some seperate categories. I think that when it comes to putting people into groups there are always going to be some people that dont fit an exact mold and they are different than the majority of people, and i think that this follows right along with political rulers. While you could classify a lot of them into these three groups there are some that are just completely different and have different styles of ruling than every ruler before them. So in my opinion when classifying people you are always going to have to create more groups than you thought because someone will always come along and be completely different than anything you had seen before.
